SUMMERDARTS, offered by the Davis Aquadarts, is a summer swim program that offers swimmers an opportunity to participate on a summer recreational team. This program is for children who are age 5 (must be 6 as of Dec 2, 2013) through teens. The summer workouts emphasize the introduction and improvement of stroke skills, water fitness, water games, and competition in a fun, social atmosphere. Practices are held daily, Monday through Friday, with no minimum attendance requirements. Optional swim meets are held throughout the summer. The season concludes with the 3-day Davis City Championship swim meet, held at Community Pool the first week in August, followed by a team swim party on Sunday, August 4.
Swimmers will be scheduled at registration for a swim evaluation to facilitate proper group placement and to determine readiness for the program. Mini Darts, Teendarts and returning swimmers age 10 and older do not need evaluations. At the evaluations, which take approximately 10 minutes, coaches will be looking for the following skills:
- Familiarity of freestyle and backstroke (able to swim 15 feet of each, with comfortable
- Breathing on freestyle)
- Bobs (rhythmic breathing)
- Kicking with a kickboard
- Comfort of swimming in all areas/depths of water
